System Setup

• What is the best way to set up my monitor so that the coursework is easy to complete?
  

  Clients often ask us for advice regarding the best way to take our continuing education courses. In this section, we'll illustrate three different ways to take the course depending on the size of your computer monitor.

  Regular Sized Monitors

  This is the most typical setup for most users. In this case, you only have one monitor and it's shaped like a square. Note: If your monitor is large enough, you may find it more convenient to use the Widescreen Monitor method of taking the Aardvark Tax courses.

  If you're using a square monitor, you'll likely not have room on your screen to have both the reference material and the coursework window side-by-side. In this case, it's often easiest to use the ALT-TAB keystroke to switch between the coursework and the material. The ALT-TAB keystroke is an industry standard which allows you to switch between open applications on your screen. Most operating systems, including Windows, work in this way.

  Another option is to use paper versions of the reference materials as you work on the course on your screen. You can obtain these publications from your local IRS office. Simply print out the reference page which lists the publication numbers and bring them with you.

  Otherwise, you can purchase all publications through us and have them mailed to you by contacting our support department.

  Widescreen Monitors

  It's much easier to use our system if you have a widescreen monitor.

  With a widescreen monitor, simply open up both the coursework and the reference material and make sure that they are not maximized. Typically, if an application is maximized on your screen, you can double click the title bar to bring it out of that mode.

  Then simply resize the windows by pulling on their corners until each one takes half the screen. Please them next to each other and you're good to go!

  Two Monitor Systems

  If you're using a two monitor system, it's even easier. Simply open up the coursework on one monitor and the reference material on the other. We advise you to keep both applications maximized as this will make the coursework much easier to complete.

System Requirements

• What are the minimum system requirements necessary to use the Aardvark Tax On-Line system?
  
  The Aardvark Tax On-Line team has tested this site's functionality on Firefox 3.x, Internet Explorer 7.0 and Internet Explorer 8.0. Other browser support is forthcoming. You can click here to get more information on browser support and how to enable Javascript and cookies.
• Do I need an Internet connection to use the Aardvark Tax On-Line system?
  
  While we plan to support off-line use in the future, you currently must have a constant Internet connection in order to use our site.
• Can I use the Aardvark Tax On-Line system on my iPhone or other handheld device?
  
  In theory, if your device supports a full browser, you might be able to use the site. Keep in mind, though, that we don't support using the system in this way.

About the Courses

• Where do I get the reference materials?
  
  All reference materials are available on government web sites such as http://www.irs.gov (IRS), http://www.ftb.ca.gov (California) and http://www.oregon.gov/DOR (Oregon). We have links to everything you need on our reference page.
• How does the Aardvark Tax On-Line system work?
  
  Taking your continuing education courses through Aardvark Tax On-Line is easy! Once you have purchased a course, you complete the course material completely on-line. In most cases, this means reading government provided publications and then answering questions about what you read. After you have answered the questions, you just click a button to submit your coursework and receive instant results. Lastly, you print a certificate stating that you passed the course. In most cases, the Aardvark Tax On-Line team will even notify your government agency that you passed. Yep -- it's really that easy.
• How much does an Aardvark Tax Course cost?
  
  Each course is priced differently. You can see the complete list at the Aardvark Tax On-Line Store.
• How long will each course take?
  
  The amount of credit hours shown for each course in the Aardvark Tax On-Line Store indicates an approximate amount of time that you should plan for the course based on 50-minute hours.
• Are the courses updated for current year tax law?
  
  Aardvark Tax On-Line updates their courses to match government agency tax law publications in January of every year. For instance, the courses were updated to 2011 tax laws in January 2012.
• What is the Aardvark Tax On-Line refund policy?

Government Acceptance

• Will my government agency accept these courses?
  
  Absolutely! If the course is listed under your government agency's jurisdiction in the Aardvark Tax On-Line Store, then it has been approved by your government agency for your continuing education.
• Do I need to send my certificate to my government agency?
  
  Aardvark Tax On-Line will attempt to advise government agencies of your successful completion of coursework. However, you will need to ask government agency whether or not they require you to send them a copy of your certificate. Enrolled agents should be aware that we do not advise the Office of Professional Responsibility regarding coursework.

Troubleshooting

• What is Javascript? What's a cookie? How do I enable them?
  
  Javascript and cookies are Internet programming communication protocols and the Aardvark Tax On-Line system relies upon them in order to function. Because of this, your browser must be enabled to use them. You can click here to get instructions on how to enable them for your specific browser.
• I'm having problems! What do I do?
  
  Most of your questions can be answered by reading the information on this page. If you've read through these FAQs and still can't solve your problem, please contact our support department.
